Attack on Titan or Attack on Tyranny?

Is it just me or has Attack on Titan really gotten away from its premise? How long has it been since we actually saw a titan?

Furthermore, how long has it been since we actually saw a plot development that wasn't trying to portray messages that haven't already been portrayed in every X-men and Avengers comic ever (probably exaggerating, but you get the point)

I wouldn't say I'm getting bored of Attack on Titan, far from it in fact, however, I'm left wanting.

Yes, okay, Attack on Titan is not your average series. It dives into and covers its bases rather impeccably. The problem is that with this being a monthly series it becomes difficult to remember what exactly is going on.

The hype of me thinking Levy is a badass is already gone from two chapters back (though he still is a badass and still deserves his spot on my top 20 favorite male characters list) and every time we cut away to subterfuge and plot in development I can't help but scratch my head, groan or both.

:icongreatkingrat88: :iconsaysplz: But Alex you simpleton, Attack on Titan is all about quality story telling and defying shonen stereotype.

All too true, which is why I love it. But

1. You can defy shonen stereotype and still have a decent plot going in motion at all times. With nothing else better to use as an example, let me bring up this week's issue of Freezing. Freezing continues to be one of my favorite manga ever and while it lacks the dark, edgy nature of Attack on Titan and Berserk, it still manages to take itself seriously, and tell its story to a proper degree all while making me give a damn!

2. Yes, I understand that what's currently going on is integral to the plot of Attack on Titan. However, why? If you go back to how this all got started, it dates to the idea that Isayama just can't let our heroes win and is trying to milk the franchise. Isayama has already admitted this. With that said, this is what we call PADDING! This whole arc of redeeming the name of the Survey Corps even after it's over is just going to get swept under the rug like it NEVER HAPPENED! Until I am proven wrong this is what it currently looks like. So, in essence, we've stopped fighting titans to talk about a 1984 kind of dystopian post-apocalyptic world. FAN. FUCKING. TASTIC!
If this series was called, oh I don't know, Titan Apocalypse or something like that, MAYBE I could by it.

3. The series spent so much time developing the survey corps and those characters in general that it makes me hard to give a damn about anyone else, including the people our heroes are forced to torture, maim and otherwise confront. Why should I care about the son of the Reeves corp? Why should I care about those two journalists? That whole scene with them could've over and done with in a few short pages, but no, it takes up half the fucking chapter! When was the last time Sasha or Cody (if I got his name right) did anything....at all?

Even with all my complaining, Attack on Titan still deserves the attention we all sling at it. However, until it decides to do something far more exciting than TALKING HEADS I have to temporarily kick it off my top 5 to the bottom of my top 15.

Personally, I blame this on the effect a waiting period can have on a series and Attack on Titan is just so underwhelmingly short (60 chapters of 40 pages that get done in what Freezing, Fairy Tail and One Piece can get done in half that time) and have so many chapters that accomplish very little that I can only groan when I'm left disappointed month after month.
Even Claymore for all of Greatkingrat's talk of "Yagi dropping the ball" still hasn't disappointed me in recent months and I'll take Dragon Ball Z level Deus Ex Machina over what I'm currently being fed in Isayama's little propaganda manga.
Claymore is STILL my favorite manga over Mirai Nikki right now and I'm very happy about that :D

Summary: Draconichero is not happy with the current developments of Attack on Titan. He still likes the manga, but it's not entertaining him as much. If you haven't read it yet, he still recommends it.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go watch more Atop the Fourth Wall, play more Fire Emblem and wait for :icongreatkingrat88: to finish editing Cornelia of the Defection 4. At the rate we're going I won't be able to get to Fairy Without Wings until December.

Ja ne!

Hey, I’m from the future, Attack on Titan is actually Germany sympathetic propaganda of how Germans were treated like devils and forced to hate themselves after the World War and how they became radicalized.
